Claire Elliott’s show of paintings, titled 𝓦𝓱𝓪𝓽’𝓼 𝓛𝓮𝓯𝓽 𝓸𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓢𝓽𝓮𝓶, is a series of works that focuses on gardens and the transition of flowers to seed in deep midwinter. Claire is interested in an idea called plant blindness, where in humans lack the ability to notice plants in one’s everyday life, especially when they are not in their peak bloom. Alien, quavering, and hinting at next spring’s bounty, these paintings look at the entire plant cycle. Death is in the same moment rebirth.
