WAVE Contemporary brings you En Motion, a group show featuring WAVE Contemporary members responding to the ‘moving image’ through their own creative practices. In contemporary life, images move through our perceptions and across our screens, shaping culture and forming the basis of our realities. As a species we evolved to be highly attuned to movement through our visual sensory perception. Now our attention to moving image shapes our politics, friend groups, beliefs and perceptions.
As the power of images has become increasingly pervasive, En Motion asks each artist to respond to the moving image that inhabits our daily lives. In a society captivated by moving image, what does it mean to be an image maker? How has this form of communication become the most streamlined method of absorbing information? En Motion explores the current social supremacy of film, video, and moving image as a driver of culture, while also considering the poetics of motion, light, and space.
